Reading FIELD
FIELD is a continuous medium, drawn as a line field. It is not a chart of your telemetry; it is the shape your telemetry gives the medium. This page is only what you need to read it — the interface is the rest of the explanation.
Infrastructure is permanent. Activity is temporary. The field remembers.
A machine is a permanent deformation: a broad well with a raised rim, there whether or not anything is running on it. Nothing you do adds or removes one, and nothing that finishes flattens one out. That is what makes everything else legible as movement against something that does not move.
057 observes one machine — this one — so there is normally one mass. The synthetic replay is a made-up environment and shows more than one.
Computation disturbs the medium near the mass it runs on. A running execution is a bright core with the field alive around it. Status is read from behaviour rather than from a badge:
Activity does not vanish when it ends; the medium relaxes back slowly. A region that has been busy stays disturbed for a while after the work stops, which is what makes a quiet minute after a heavy hour look different from a quiet minute after a quiet hour.
Residue is a decay, not a log. It carries no detail and is not a record of past events — the record is in TODAY and PROCESS LOG.
A session is an altitude, not a new shape. Where several executions belong to one session, the ground beneath them rises into a flat-topped plinth and the field’s own contour closes around the set — the session is the line that encloses its work.
A session that began and never ran anything keeps its rim and loses its floor: presence without content, which is a different thing from nothing observed and from work that has relaxed away.
A session that started another sits as a plinth growing out of a plinth.
Objects are drawn as sharply as 057 has actually resolved them. A crisply defined shape is one observed in detail; a soft one is thinly observed. Definition is a claim about observation, so nothing 057 knows only vaguely is drawn as though it were certain.
Zoom out and the day appears as sediment below the live field: one lane per machine, each session a horizontal bar from the minute it started, coloured by outcome, interrupted work drawn fainter. The readout in the corner tells you where you are:

Scroll to pan, control-scroll or pinch to zoom, click to inspect. On a touch screen: drag, pinch, tap. The footer states the gesture set for whatever you are looking at.
Selecting an object opens the inspector: what it is, what it measured, what it is related to and on what evidence, and the native record it came from. A measure that was computed rather than read is labelled — hover it for the assumption behind it. A measure the source does not report is absent, and says which.
TODAY is the day as a reading. PROCESS LOG is the raw process record, sortable. Both exist because inspecting one stratum at a time is inspection, not analysis — the field is where the shape is, and these are where the rows are.
The header carries the observation state (TODAY, OS ONLY, PARTIAL, and the fault states) and one control switching between CAPTURE — everything real, all sources at once — and SYNTHETIC, a replayed day that is never mixed into your telemetry.
